Immigration

  • First and foremost, the executive branch at the State and Federal level must enforce the laws we currently have on the books. Many of the problems that stem from illegal immigration would be greatly reduced if the President simply did his job and secured our border. This is part of his constitutional duty as Chief Executive of the United States. A secure border is paramount, not only relative to our physical safety, but for our economic security as well.
  • Second, by modernizing government agencies, we will remove the ability of those who are here illegally to collect benefits at tax payer expense. This saves billions of dollars and takes away the incentive for immigrants to come here illegally.
  • Finally, immigration reform legislation should only be considered after the above conditions are met. Legislative reform prior to securing the border and denial of benefits would result in neither condition being met. Historically, when legislative action has taken place without enforcement of our current laws, the outcome has been amnesty. We must learn from these mistakes and take responsible steps that encourage legal immigration.
  • I will not consider immigration reform at any level prior to the establishment of a secure border and a comprehensive overhaul of our benefits system that ensures no illegal alien receives benefits courtesy of the tax payer.
